Contentment

Contrary to what the world might say, joy and contentment are not necessarily determined by our circumstances. We can learn to have joy and contentment regardless of whether we live in abundance or lack. Indeed, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

  • Notice Paul says that he "learned in whatever situation I am to be content". How does one "learn" to be content regardless of circumstance?
  • Paul also says he knows how to be brought low and abound. Which is harder for you to do, abound or be brought low? Why? Note, some of us if we are honest, do not know how to deal with abundance well.
  • What is the context for verse 13?
  • How does verse 13 get misused and misrepresented? Have you ever used this verse for personal gain/accomplishment?
