Words and the Wise

Proverbs has much to teach us regarding how to be wise in the way use our words. Oftentimes however, the areas where we struggle to keep our speech pure have far more to do with our hearts than our mouths.

CG Questions:

  1. Describe a time when someone’s words affected you deeply (positively or negatively).
  2. Describe a time when your words had an unintended negative impact on someone else.
  3. 3 categories of foolish speech were addressed in the sermon: Perverse (corrupt, deceptive speech), Harsh (quarrelsome, argumentative speech), and Hasty (careless speech). Are any of these categories more of a struggle for you than the others? Share with the group and discuss how you would like to grow in that area.
  4. Discuss how a deeper understanding of what Christ achieved on the cross can help with heart issues driving foolish speech.
